Lake-effect snow advisories and warnings are in effect for today the snow belt areas of New York and Pennsylvania. A weak cold front will move through the Great Lakes once again tomorrow, enhancing the chance of rain and snow tomorrow into Friday from the Lakes to the Mid-Atlantic and reinforcing the cold air in place. By the weekend, the only precipitation in the region will be a few showers near the coast on Saturday and in western Pennsylvania on Sunday. Highs today will range from the 30s in the interior to the 50s near the coast. Highs tomorrow will be in the 30s in Northern New England and the 40s elsewhere. A weak cold front will enhance the chance of rain and snow again tomorrow into Friday near the Great Lakes, while a light wintry mix is possible over North Dakota. In the Plains States and Mississippi Valley, the story will be the warm-up with temperatures returning to near average and above average over the next few days. A front moving through southern Canada and the Northern Plains will tap some moisture from the Gulf of Mexico this weekend, bringing showers to the Plains and Mississippi Valley over the weekend. Highs today will range from the 30s near the Great Lakes to the 70s in western Kansas and southwestern Nebraska. Highs tomorrow will range from 30s in eastern North Dakota and northern Minnesota to the 70s in western Kansas. Showers, with some snow in higher elevations, are possible along the Canadian border in Washington, Idaho, and northwestern Montana today and tomorrow. Along the Southern California Coast, high surf and coastal flooding will cause problems for those near the beaches today: dangerous rip currents are possible near low tide this afternoon (around 2 pm Pacific time). More widespread rains are possible along the West Coast from San Francisco northward, and into the Northern Rockies as an upper level trough moves ashore. This upper level trough will bring valley rain/mountains snows to the Interior West over the weekend and help to develop a surface low in the Plains over the weekend. With this upper trough will come cooler temperatures, bringing an end to the warmth of the last few and next few days. Highs today and tomorrow will range from the 40s in mountainous areas of northern Washington, northern Idaho, northern Montana, and northern Wyoming, to the 90s in southwestern Arizona. These low humidity values will raise the fire danger across much of the Southeast, prompting red flag warnings to be posted in parts of Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. Stray showers are possible along Florida's East Coast tomorrow and Friday with an onshore wind expected. As winds turn southerly over the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley over the weekend ahead of the next frontal system, some showers and isolated thunderstorms will be possible in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Much of the region will experience below average temperatures today and tomorrow with the exception of the Southern Plains. Highs today will range from the 40s in the Virginia and North Carolina Mountains to the 80s in South Florida and West Texas. Highs tomorrow will range from the 40s in western Virginia to the 90s in West Texas.
