Chief of the CIA, Porter Goss, unexpectedly resigned today. Goss was given the task of rebuilding the CIA after the agency received much criticism following the terrorist attacks on 9/11. The announcement was made at an abruptly organized event in the Oval Office attended by Goss and the director of national intelligence, John Negroponte. President Bush offered no explanation for the reason of his resignation, he only gave him praise for the work he has done in the agency. “Porter’s tenure at the CIA was one of transition. He’s helped this agency become integrated into the intelligence community. That was a tough job. He’s led ably,” Bush said. The President also said he believed Goss’s successor will continue his reforms, resulting in a safer more secure country.
