Bypassing the obstructionist tactics of senate Democrats, President Bush has installed judge Charles Pickering on the Federal Appeals Court. The President used his power to appoint Pickering during the Congressional recess. Pickering, speaking from his home in Mississippi said; “I’m grateful to the President for his continued confidence and support. I’m looking forward to serving on the fifth circuit.” The appointment has stung senate Democrats who held up Pickering’s nomination for two years. The fifth Circuit Court of Appeals handles cases from Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana. Pickering is known as a strict constructionist who believes that judges should interpret the law not create it.
