President’s remarks on marriage please no one By: Administrative Account | Source: IRNNEWS December 17, 2003 5:22PM EST
It would appear that president Bush’s position on a constitutional amendment to define and protect marriage has drawn criticism from both sides of the controversy. In an interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer Mr. Bush said that he would support a constitutional definition of marriage, however the president went on to say that any arrangement recognized at the state level is equally acceptable. Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council says, “This sounds as though the administration would support civil unions which are counterfeits of the institution of marriage. The president’s remarks also undermine state legislators, who are fighting to protect the institution of marriage in states like Massachusetts.” On the other side homosexual activists are complaining that the president’s support of a marriage amendment threatens their efforts. - President Bush Endorses Marriage Protection Week - Pro-Family Groups Unite to Promote 'Marriage Protection Week' - New Jersey Judge Refuses to Legislate 'Marriage' from the Bench - Bush cheers 'gay' church after 'Marriage Week' - Breaking: Massachusetts Court Legalizes Homosexual Marriage - Massachusetts Court Says Okay to Same-Sex Marriage - Romney to Challenge Gay Marriage Ruling - Ruling on Same-Sex Marriage Hurts Democrat Candidates - Bush Comments on Marriage Alarm Supporters and Detractors - Lawsuit Seeks to Block California's 'Gay Marriage' Law - Lawsuit challenges homosexual marriage law - Strong Support Is Found for Ban on Gay Marriage - Residents of Massachusetts reject homosexual marriage - Border Patrol union calls President’s immigration plan a slap in the face - Indiana Court of Appeals hears case on same-sex marriage - Poll shows most against same-sex marriage - Bush's Comments on Marriage Draw Praise, Criticism - Ga.'s gay marriage ban may tighten - Ohio Senate Approves Gay-Marriage Ban - Gay-marriage opponents rally across Massachusetts
