Talking about the efforts of Republicans to reduce the number of votes needed to stop debate and approve pro-life judicial nominees, a NARAL email alert Monday warned that the "right wing is getting its ducks in a row to take over the federal courts."

NARAL calls Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist's idea to change the rules a "new low" and criticizes him for working with groups like Focus on the Family to support it.

The pro-abortion group says it's critical that "activists in all 50 states continue to speak out against the nuclear option to their senators regardless of their position."

The group is concerned that First will use the appeals court nominations of Priscilla Owen and Janice Rogers Brown to launch the rules change battle.

The two state Supreme Court justices have been lauded by pro-life advocates for their consistent rulings upholding pro-life legislation such as parental involvement laws, which have reduced the number of teen abortions. NARAL calls the women "two of President Bush's worst nominees" and "extremely anti-choice."

NARAL provides its backers with a sample form letter to contact members of the Senate. It urges senators to oppose the nominations because Owen and Brown "have records of extreme judicial activism."

The letter encourages a vote against any rules change preventing filibusters on judicial nominees.
