Conservative African American political action organizations are calling on the Virginia state Bar to investigate the role of the NAACP in what they are saying was a conspiracy to rig the outcome of an affirmative action case. In the complaint filed by African-American Leadership Network Project 21, the NAACP’s Legal Defense and Education Fund is charged with asking Senator Edward Kennedy to delay the confirmation of a new judge to the 6th District Court of Appeals in order to guarantee a liberal majority that would uphold the affirmative action policy at the University of Michigan. Senator John Cornyn (Rep.-Tex.) says of the memos that revealed the subversion of the nominating process, ‘These memos prove what we have suspected for a long time, that these special interest groups call the tune, and the democrats dance”.
