The U.N. has had cold water thrown on its plans to expand its headquarters in New, York City. A coalition of anti-U.N. activists and New York officials is opposing a plan that would cost 1.3 billion dollars for renovations and would require land to be donated by the city to the scandal ridden organization. One of the founders of Move Forward America, an organization dedicated to ending U.S, involvement in the U.N. expressed the sentiments of those who object to the U.N.’s demands. Says Howard Kaloogian “United Nations officials stiff New York City to the tune of millions in unpaid parking tickets and taxes, and U.N. General Secretary Kofi Annan calls the United States ‘one of the least generous’ countries in the world.” He goes on to say, “We support the efforts of New York state and local officials to block the U.N.’s expansion and refurbishment plans.”
