(CNSNews.com) - A jury in Virginia Beach, Va., recommended the death penalty for sniper suspect John Allen Muhammad on Monday morning. Unless the judge reduces the penalty to life in prison, Muhammad would face execution by lethal injection for his part in the three-week series of murders that caused panic in the Washington metropolitan area a little over a year ago. The defense is expected to appeal, something that is routine in death penalty cases. The judge set Feb. 12, 2004, as the formal sentencing date.
