Supreme Court justice unhappy about activist justices By: John Russell | Source: IRN NEWS September 21, 2004 1:04AM EST
Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court Atonin Scalia is unhappy about members of the federal judiciary assuming powers not given them under the constitution. Scalia says that issues concerning social policy are the bussiness of the legislature and not activist judges. Because of the power currently being exercised in federal courtrooms it is likely that every confirmation hearing for the foreseeable future will be heated partisan battles. But Justice Scalia believes that the trend can not continue saying, "One way or another, the people will have their say on signifacant issues of social policy...and judges will be made politically accountable." - Pro-Life Activists Target Kerry's Stand on Abortion - SWIFT OFFICERS AND VETS: KERRY LIED ABOUT SPENDING CHRISTMAS IN CAMBODIA - NY Times: CBS Staffers Deeply Concerned About Rather's Report - House votes to break up activist court - Christian activist Ed McAteer Dies at home - Canada court mulls gay marriage - Business-Backed 527 Will 'Tell the Truth About Trial Lawyers' - Conservative Republicans Unhappy with Direction of Party - Activists Aim to Frustrate, Disrupt Republican Convention - Kerry Questioned About His 'Chinese Assault Rifle' - How do Americans REALLY feel about Gay Marriage and an amendment to prohibit it? - Bush Courts Black Voters at Urban League - Source: CBS Worried About Worse Revelations - ACLU asks Supreme Court to rule on Florida's gay adoption ban - A rare chance to reshape top court - FBI Shadowed Kerry During Activist Era
