Playwright and former president of the Czech Republic Vaclav Havel knows the face of tyrany having spent five years in communist prisons for being a political dissident. Havel spoke at a conference dealing with the plight of the people of Cuba saying that, "Cuba is a giant prison." He went on to say, "It is inconceivable and unacceptible that people continue to be imprisoned in Cuba because of their ideas and their peaceful politics." The summit organized by the International Committee for Democracy in Cuba issued a call for an end to political oppression titled the Prague Memorandum. Speaking of the document Havel says, "This summit is importent as the least signature of a petition is importent.
