NY Times: CBS News Says It Was Misled on Memos

(CNSNews.com) - CBS News officials now have "grave doubts" about the authenticity of memos the network used to discredit President Bush's National Guard service, the New York Times reported on Monday. According to the newspaper, CBS officials (not named) said CBS News "would most likely make an announcement as early as [Monday] that it had been deceived about the documents' origins." An internal inquiry is possible, the newspaper reported. No comment yet from Dan Rather, whose reporting based on the forged memos has been widely criticized and held up as an example of liberal media bias against a Republican president. According to Monday's New York Times report, "Mr. Rather and others at the network are said to still believe that the sentiment in the memos accurately reflected Mr. Killian's feelings but that the documents' authenticity was now in grave doubt."
