When she decided to run for a seat on the county commission in Sandoval New Mexico current county clerk Victoria Dunlap may not have understood how strongly voters felt about the issue of same sex marriage. It was Dunlap who issued 66 marriage licenses to homosexuals until she was ordered to cease and desist by the state’s attorney general. The election results showed that voters rejected Dunlap by more than a two to one margin. Dunlap a nominal Republican was censured by the party’s county committee, with one of the committeemen saying it was the best they could do short of assassination.
