The French have announced that they will not support a European constitution that recognizes God. France and Belgium want no reference to Christianity in the new document, however they are in the minority. A group seven nations say that they want at least a recognition of Europe’s Christian heritage. In a statement the foreign ministers of Italy Spain, Poland, Portugal, Malta, Slovakia and The Czech Republic say “The amendment we ask for is aimed to recognize a historical truth.” Unlike the American war for Independence, the French revolution was founded on the philosophy of Atheism. The oppression of Christians provided a sizable portion of those victimized during the Reign of Terror.
