Some want non-citizens to vote

One of the latest political fads is the movement to allow non- citizens the right to vote. Those who would further dilute the franchise argue that non-citizen residents pay taxes and should have a say in how that tax money is spent. However critics point out that the movement’s backers are exclusively from the political left and the presumption is that new immigrants will vote overwhelmingly for democratic candidates. Ira Mehlman speaking for the Federation of American immigration Reform says, “They see immigrants as likely Democratic voters, clearly their motivation is to get these people to the polls.”
