In spite of efforts by the White House to extend and expand the powers of the Patriot Act it is unlikely that congressional Republicans are going to give the administration everything it wants. Among the provisions that have raised the ire of many of the president’s own party is the expansion of what are known administrative subpoenas which are issued by enforcement agencies without the approval of a judge. Others are objecting to the failure to notify those who have been the subject of secret searches in a timely manner. There is a movement on the part of some lawmakers to introduce legislation that will further restrict the powers granted by the Patriot Act. The act was passed by a congress that had not even read the law before passing it in the heated atmosphere following the 9-11 attacks. - New Mexico county republicans censure county clerk - 'Legalize Incest' Suggestion Shocks Lawmakers - House Republican tries to undo ad restrictions in new campaign finance law - More teachers resisting the NEA’S pro-abortion stance - Republicans Divided on Toomey-Specter Race - North Carolina’s Republicans tell homosexuals that their values are not the same - General Motors Plans $3 Billion Expansion in China - Activists Aim to Frustrate, Disrupt Republican Convention - Who Is John Edwards?
