The message is short and to the point; you can not pretend to be a Catholic and be pro-abortion. The primary message of the Vatican’s announcement is that anyone knowingly engaged in grave sin can not take part in the sacrament of communion. In a statement to the press Friday Cardinal Francis Atinze reiterated the church’s stand that no Catholic politician can be a supporter of abortion and be part of the church community at the same time. The statement follows the position taken by Archbishop Raymond Burke of La Crosse Wis.
