Unhappy with what they see as anti-traditional values position being taken by the Girl Scouts, disaffected mothers have started a counter organization called American Heritage Girls. The group was founded by a Cincinnati, Ohio woman after the Girl Scouts began accepting lesbians as troop leaders and banned prayers at meetings. Founder Patti Garibay says that the American Heritage Girls started with about a hundred girls in Ohio and has grown to include 2,800 girls in 22 states. The group received a boost in membership after it was revealed that the Girl Scout’s Bluebonnet council in Texas had embraced Planned Parenthood going as far as giving its Director for central Texas its Woman of Distinction award.
