Members of the Florida Family Policy Council were collecting signatures on petitions last Saturday calling for an amendment to Florida's constitution that would protect the traditional definition of marriage. They were set up outside a public building being used by the Christian men's organization, Promise Keepers. Suddenly they were approached by several members of the Sunrise, Florida police department who ordered them to stop their petition drive. The officer in charge, Sergeant Stephen Allen began arguing with the men making it clear that he didn't approve of the amendment. At one point Allen kissed another officer mocking the volunteers. The police finally left after being told by an official with the Bank Atlantic Center that no laws were being violated. John Stemberger, President and general counsel for the FFPC says, "This is unacceptable and a disgrace to the thousands of good cops in Florida that put their lives on the line every day to protect our families and our liberties," IRN NEWS attempted to contact the Chief of Police of Sunrise, but our calls were not returned. - Catholic Bishops End Abortion-Communion Debate Saying Local Leaders Decide - Police launch eye-in-the-sky technology above Los Angeles - Coalition Forces Kill Three Afghan Police, U.S. Military Says - New Orleans Police Chief: 'I'll Grab Guns' - London Police Arrest Man in Connection With U.S. Terror Charge - China Police Admit Having Activist Against Forced Abortion Policy in Custody
