Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-abortion lawmakers are once again targeting one of President Bush's pro-life judicial nominees. This time, members of the Congressional Black Caucus are denouncing Janice Brown, a pro-life black judge who serves on the California Supreme Court.

Brown has been nominated by Bush for a spot on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, considered the nation's second highest court after the Supreme Court.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to take up her nomination next Wednesday.

Brown wrote a key dissent in the California case of American Academy of Pediatrics v. Lungren where she disagreed with a court majority that voted to strike down California's parental notification law.

Pro-abortion Rep. Diane Watson (D-CA) said Brown "makes Clarence Thomas look like Thurgood Marshall."

The pro-abortion black lawmakers say Brown's pro-life stance on abortion and other political issues make her unfit for the post.

Bush "hasn't fooled us," pro-abortion Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) told the Associated Press. "She's cut from the same cloth as Clarence Thomas."

Thomas, who become only the second black justice on the Supreme Court, has been a longtime pro-life jurist.

Senate Democrats have not said whether they would filibuster Brown's nomination, which is expected to be approved in committee by a party-line vote.
