The good news on Saturday is that weather conditions will be ideal from southern Virginia and most of the Carolinas through Georgia. Some showers and thunderstorms will exit the coastal Carolinas early in the day. The problem areas will be from Oklahoma down to the central Gulf Coast. The main threat for severe weather will be across eastern Texas to southern Louisiana. Severe thunderstorms with hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes are possible. By Sunday rain and thunderstorms will extend from the lower Mississippi Valley to Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia and northern Florida as low pressure rides eastward along a frontal boundary. Temperatures on Sunday will be quite cool from northern Georgia to southern Virginia. |

Low pressure aloft over eastern Canada will keep showers in the Saturday forecast across northern sections of New York and New England. Colder air will also slide into the area. By Sunday morning, temperatures will be in the 30s and even a few 20s from the mountains of West Virginia to Upstate New York. Even northern New England and interior southern New England will drop into the 30s and scattered frost is possible. Lows will be in the 40s with 50s in the Chesapeake Bay area. Sunday looks ideal across the region but rain will move up into the Middle Atlantic area on Monday. |

Most of the Midwest will enjoy a dry weekend. Weather conditions look ideal for the Kentucky Derby in Louisville. Precipitation will be confined to parts of Kansas and Missouri. High temperatures on Saturday will range from the 50s across northern Michigan and parts of southern Kansas to the 70s through the northern Plains. Sunday will be dry, except for a few showers across the northern Great Lakes. Rain and thunderstorms will enter the Plains on Monday leading to a possible severe weather Tuesday over parts of the Missouri and lower Ohio Valley areas. |

Some changes are in store for parts of the West this weekend. The Pacific Northwest has been warm and dry but a front will move through later on Saturday bringing showers, onshore winds and colder temperatures to the area. Meanwhile, the Front Range of the Rockies, from Wyoming to Colorado has been cold lately but temperatures will become significantly warmer as clouds move away and milder downsloping winds take over. The Desert Southwest will become hot agan by early next week with the mercury rising to over 100 degrees in some locations. |
