Relations between ex-president Bill Clinton and executives at the Fox News Channel's parent company may be starting to thaw, with Clinton set to address a News Corp. gathering this summer at the invitation of company chairman Rupert Murdoch.
Only three years ago, Clinton was blaming Murdoch's news channel for Democrat losses in the 2002 mid-term election.
"[Republicans] have a much better media machine than we do," he told "Today Show" host Katie Couric.
He complained about "sympathetic cable programs that are heavily weighted in their favor" before mentioning Fox stars Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity by name.
According to the New York Observer, however, Clinton has just accepted Murdoch's invite to speak at the Pebble Beach Golf Club in August.
Why would the ex-president be hobnobbing with the Democratic Party's version of the Great Satan?
"We have a good relationship with the former president," a News Corp spokesman explained to the Observer.
The company's relationship with Hillary Clinton has also apparently improved. Mrs. Clinton turned up at a Fox News 10th anniversary party in Washington, D.C. last week.
Last year the Observer reported on growing signs of an alliance between Murdoch and Clinton, citing a private lunch the two shared in 2002 and comments from her spokesman, who told the paper: "Senator Clinton respects [Murdoch] and thinks he is smart and effective."
